This one is from July 25th and we have one more BIG Video Show that we must put online and we'll be all caught up with out blogging. That one should go up within a day or so.
So sometimes people ask me why the B.I.G. Show doesn't get posted on the blog right away. I mean, we were able to create it the night of the wedding and get to burnt to DVD. It should be easy to just throw it up online, right?
Well, we COULD do that, but we won't.
You see, on the wedding day things are very hectic with trying put together a video on the same day. Part of the process of making a good video is the coloring of the footage. This in itself takes some explaining. We have to film in many different lighting situations on the day of the wedding, none of which we have any control over. But our eyes adjust to different lighting, so what we see as a white dress may actually be a bit orange on film. And that's because the camera doesn't lie (as I'm sure you've heard that term before).
So on the wedding day we are more concerned about creating a great edit than we are about making sure the colors look like a Hollywood film. But we want to make those corrections before we put the video online for all to see. Color grading of footage can be very time consuming. It's one area of post production that we take a lot of pride in because it's what makes our videos look so great while other studios might look like home movies. Last night, I happened to be walking by the TV and a commercial just started. After a quick walk by, it caught my eye. I saw a high heel shoe on the floor, a mans cummerbund and miscellaneous items panning to a bride and groom. I stopped and looked back but the commercial was over - thank goodness for DVR's! I asked my husband, "What was that about?" and he replied he wasn't paying attention. He grabbed the remote and we watched again! This time, I notice sitting on the bed, still in their wedding clothes, are the bride and groom reading cards and laughing about a check made out to Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So and the groom says something about HIS parents getting a check but then they grab their iPhone and deposit the check into their account! This is a new feature that Chase is offering called Quick Deposit. I was floored! How cool is THAT?! I love it. I grabbed my iPhone, downloaded the app and signed into my account. I had to try this...what a great little tool. I have had a couple of checks in my purse waiting to go to the bank...which I haven't gotten around to doing. Took the pictures, entered the amount and tada! Done. Awesome!
There are a few little catches - you can only deposit up to $1000 a day and you have a $3000 limit per month. Also, you need to photograph the front and back of the checks on a non-reflective surface. You must have a steady hand! It was pretty simple, actually. I will get better at it the more I do it! So, you've seen those three words before - right? In lieu of a gift.... In lieu of flowers... In lieu of is pretty simple to define: In place of or instead of.
Well, on the horizon is a new way of giving - INLU (get it? in lieu?). Yes, it's spelled wrong - yes they know it. What is it? A simple way of getting everyone to go in on a group gift or if you are the wedding couple and do not want gifts but, instead would rather give to a charity - this is one way to do it.
INLU allows the person organizing the party (bachelorette, bridal shower, etc) a place to create an evite invitation and collect funds for one spectacular gift. Maybe, the couple has been living together and really couldn't use a new toaster, towel set or food processor. Maybe, what they really want is a new living room set. Seems pretty easy...that is if the people you are inviting are hip to internet gifting! I happen to like the idea - it's a pretty easy way to take care of gift giving - and I want to give the couple what they really want!
We did something similar for my hubby's 40th surprise birthday party! I had a luau surprise party for him and in lieu of a gift, I asked his friends and our family to chip in for a big surprise gift - a cruise to Hawaii! They all did it and my husband was SHOCKED! It was a lot of fun and easy for the guests...the only thing they had to do was show up for the surprise and have a good time.
I am not opposed to helping a couple with their honeymoon registry either. Times have changed! No longer does the bride have a trousseauwhen she gets married!
