I am a huge AC/DC fan. In my eyes they can do no wrong. But the same thing cannot be said about their record company, which is now Sony BMG. You remember Sony records, right? The company that, in an effort to thwart music piracy, sold CD's that installed a root kit on the person's computer. This is software that allows people to take control over another person's computer. bad move.
But I digress.
Why is the Iron Man 2 Soundtrack not the best idea Sony has ever come up with? It seems like a winner on the surface. AC/DC was one of the biggest selling bands in 2008 and 2009. They are one of the biggest selling band OF ALL TIME (take that, Kenye). Their album Back in Black is the number 2 highest selling album of all time - second only to Michael Jackson's Thriller. And the movie is sure to be a winner as it;s a follow-up to the smash hit movie of 2008.
The problem with this CD is that the only person I can recommend buy it is the die hard fans.
Bu-bu-whaat?!? You're saying, "Hey Ken, if it wasn't such a great idea, why would a die hard fan want to buy this thing?" That's because for $38 they have a collector's edition that includes the CD, a DVD with 50 minutes of never seen before live footage, 2 Iron Man comic books, an AC/DC poster and replica backstage passes. This is something a die had fan cannot pass up. The song selection is negligible. In fact it's because of the song selection that I will recommend that the casual listener stay away from this CD.
You see, this is not a "greatest hits" as it has been advertised. In fact, it's not even a "somewhat modest hits CD". The songs have been selected by the director of Iron Man, Jon Favreau, who also plays his security guard, Hogan, in both movies. The songs have been selected to help tell the story of the movie, but are not even close to being their best songs. In fact, one of the songs is actually a throw-away song that had never been released on a CD until the band released their most recent box set, Back Tracks.
So the diehard fans will already own all these songs and really only need to buy this package for the extra goodies, and the casual fan will be disappointed to find that almost half of the tracks are not considered their greatest hits. I would love to see AC/DC release a greatest hits CD someday. For new fans to have all their best material would be an investment in buying 16 full CD's. It would be nice for new fans to have a double CD package with 30 of the band's biggest hits.
So for the casual fan, stay away from the Iron Man 2 Soundtrack if you want a greatest hits package. This isn't it.

Certain times of the year I just get bombarded with phone calls and it's hard to keep up. I do my best to get back to people, but it gets hard. So I thought I would write this for those who follow my blog so you know when we will be contacting you for information.
The Wedding - We do weddings every week so it makes it easier on us if we stick to this week's weddings and give them our full attention, instead of thinking about weddings that are 3 or 4 weeks away. You will hear from me the Monday or Tuesday before your wedding. That is when we will cover the details and times and locations. We also need a few details from your photographer and DJ so we prefer to be the last professional you talk to.
After The Wedding - The first thing we do is capture your video to a hard drive and store the master tapes for safe keeping. Because of the way we edit the only thing we need from you is a song selection for The Prologue. If you have not heard from us that means we aren't ready to work on your video yet. Delivery times for videos is not an exact science so I prefer not to give estimated delivery dates because I don't want to give you a date, miss it, and then be upset. KSV is a sole proprietorship so things in my personal life can affect delivery time. This applies to your photographer as well.
Post Production - Once I get your song selection the video is sent to one of our talents editor for rough cutting. Then it comes back to me for what is known as the final cut. This is where we clean up any mistakes and adjust the coloring of the footage. This can take a while depending on what part of the season we are in. The next time you will hear from me is when the video is ready to be shipped.
So this is how our communications work. The goal is to educate our clients about the process of making a wedding video. It's very different from that of a DJ or photographer. We hope that keeping our clients informed will make the process go much quicker and smother for everybody.

Last night, I happened to be walking by the TV and a commercial just started. After a quick walk by, it caught my eye. I saw a high heel shoe on the floor, a mans cummerbund and miscellaneous items panning to a bride and groom. I stopped and looked back but the commercial was over - thank goodness for DVR's! I asked my husband, "What was that about?" and he replied he wasn't paying attention. He grabbed the remote and we watched again! This time, I notice sitting on the bed, still in their wedding clothes, are the bride and groom reading cards and laughing about a check made out to Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So and the groom says something about HIS parents getting a check but then they grab their iPhone and deposit the check into their account! This is a new feature that Chase is offering called Quick Deposit. I was floored! How cool is THAT?! I love it. I grabbed my iPhone, downloaded the app and signed into my account. I had to try this...what a great little tool. I have had a couple of checks in my purse waiting to go to the bank...which I haven't gotten around to doing. Took the pictures, entered the amount and tada! Done. Awesome!
There are a few little catches - you can only deposit up to $1000 a day and you have a $3000 limit per month. Also, you need to photograph the front and back of the checks on a non-reflective surface. You must have a steady hand! It was pretty simple, actually. I will get better at it the more I do it! I just thought that was the most fun thing...and I am so excited to share this!! I HATE going to the bank and now...I don't have to!! Click here to read more about this on the Chase website
By now we've all seen the "JK Wedding Entrance Dance" on YouTube. It's been viewed over 21 million times so far. Some think it was great and some think it was inappropriate for a church. I say this couple was just flat out stupid. Why?
Imagine planning this very unique and fun way to start your wedding and then not hiring a professional to capture it. All they have is the crappy handheld footage from one of the guests. What a shame. Those of you have seen our videos know how much better this would have been had it been filmed in HD with 3 cameras to catch all the action.
What a shame to go to all this trouble to make your wedding different and then not have it filmed properly. Hell, the person didn't even know how to encode it properly. Notice how it's all stretched out.
