You might be thinking, "Hey, Ken, shouldn't you be working instead of blogging during a wedding reception?" Well, believe it or not I am working. Cindy and Lynn are on the dance floor right now while I am wrapping up the B.I.G. Video Show that we displayed around 10 PM.
Jennifer and Mike are such a fun couple and it shows in the video.
This one is from July 25th and we have one more BIG Video Show that we must put online and we'll be all caught up with out blogging. That one should go up within a day or so.
So sometimes people ask me why the B.I.G. Show doesn't get posted on the blog right away. I mean, we were able to create it the night of the wedding and get to burnt to DVD. It should be easy to just throw it up online, right?
Well, we COULD do that, but we won't.
You see, on the wedding day things are very hectic with trying put together a video on the same day. Part of the process of making a good video is the coloring of the footage. This in itself takes some explaining. We have to film in many different lighting situations on the day of the wedding, none of which we have any control over. But our eyes adjust to different lighting, so what we see as a white dress may actually be a bit orange on film. And that's because the camera doesn't lie (as I'm sure you've heard that term before).
So on the wedding day we are more concerned about creating a great edit than we are about making sure the colors look like a Hollywood film. But we want to make those corrections before we put the video online for all to see. Color grading of footage can be very time consuming. It's one area of post production that we take a lot of pride in because it's what makes our videos look so great while other studios might look like home movies. I've been struggling with sticking to a workout plan. I mean, at this point, who hasn't? I've done it all (or not), I've purchased different workout videos (that still have the wrapper) and I've counted points but I can never stick to a plan and follow through. One of the blogs I follow, The Roddy Bride decided to try the 30 Day Shred and posted about it the other day (see post here) she's ready to Shred and I am too. Granted I've only had the DVD for 11 months and it still has the wrapper on it (!). Reading her post was all the motivation I needed to dust that DVD, open it and do it with her. If you are motivated go ahead and do it with us, you can follow along and let us know and we'll do a roll call every week. Here's the challenge: we will do the 30 Day Shred for ALL of 30 days. I don't mean a "destination wedding" - did I confuse you? I saw these amazing suitcases...but they aren't really suitcases! They are actually boxes from a paper company called Kate's Paperie. They are made of lightweight but sturdy cardboard and trimmed with metal latches and hinges. I thought they could be an interesting photo prop! They come in three sizes: small, medium or large and the price range is $10 - $15 each.
I browsed around the site awhile and came across something else that inspired me...if you have suitcase in hand....what does that mean?? That you are going somewhere....correct!! These two were so amazing! When a client allows me 100% control over a shoot; to be creative and just enjoy their company, awesome image aways result! A professional wedding photographer or event photographer is a special breed of artist. We must capture the true essence, mood of a location or client without forcing things. My style is more of a voyeurist where I simple watch, listen and allow the images to come to me. Im not a fan of ridged poses of ol school photography.
90% of all of my wedding packages include an engagement session with the bride and groom. This is beneficial to both parties: 1) it allows myself and the client to have a 2 or 3 hour visit and to get to know each other before the big day 2) always produces amazing images to be used in their final flush mount wedding album or too create an enlargement, say 20×30 on Pulled Canvas, to be displayed at the reception!
I cover all of South Florida as well as destination weddings aboard. Packages are customized for the bride and grooms specific needs instead of trying to shoe honing them into a one size fits all package which in many time is simply is wasteful. If you dont need it, you dont pay for it, if you want it, you do! Simple, to the point and very agreeable for both parties.
Im a firm believer in hiring the right person for a job. If you like the style, personality and or demeanor of the photographer and their in your budget, GO FOR IT! Theres nothing worse then being stressed out on your wedding day to then have someone around that you really dont like; you will not be happy, the photographer will not be happy and your final images will show it!
