25 Years Later

August 19, 1983 - My very first concert. I was 14 years old and my sister's boyfriend, Tony, agreed to take me so he could score some browny points with my parents. He got us 2nd row seat for Iron Maiden at The Spectrum. It was the World Piece Tour, so named because of their recently released album, Piece of Mind. I remember it like it was yesterday. We moved up to the front so that we were actually leaning in the stage. The band opened with the song Where Eagles Dare and the bass player, Steve Harris, came close to stepping on my hands. The first opening act was a real good band from Canada called Coney Hatch, and the other band was Fastway, and they sucked.

June 17, 2008 - My son's 5th concert. He is 8 years old and loves rock music thanks to video games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band. No front row for me anymore. Back then they were $13, today they are $125. OUCH! But we did get real good seats right behind the sound board. We had a clear view of the stage and the sound at a concert always sounds best to the guy running the mixing board. We both got Eddie t-shirts. The sound was very loud so we both put earplugs in. They played for over and hour and a half and played many of their greatest songs.

Sentimental Gestures

It's no secret I am a huge fan of brooches - especially when they are incorporated into the bridal bouquet! While checking up on one of my favorite photographers I found these pictures:

 

Photogapher, Murakami, caught the beauty of this sentimental gesture on Mandi and Brandon's wedding day. You can read more about the brooch and see the bride's reaction when she was given the brooch here. In this bouquet shot - the brooch has photos of the brides mom on her wedding day and the mom's mom (the brides grandmother) on her wedding day. How special is that??! What an amazing keepsake too! I just wanted to share this because I thought it was so sentimental and special! Do you have plans of incorporating anything in your own wedding using pictures of your mom's or grandmother's? Aisle Style-150 Years of Wedding Fashions

Last weekend Mr. Encore and I headed to Charleston, SC to hang out in what was our last weekend together for a while. I dragged him to the Charleston Museum where the Aisle Style exhibit was on display. The exhibit was a nice size and had many original gowns from the 1800's. I learned that many of these gowns were handmade in France, most were two pieces because it was perfectly acceptable to wear your gown again with a more simple top during the first year of marriage. Also, as we know colored gowns were popular at the time as well and they had a few on display. The exhibit will be on display until June 30, 2010, stop by if you're in Charleston.

Eagles Carnival

I was asked by The Eagles to film the Eagles Carnival yesterday. The Carnival is a non-profit event to raise money for The Eagles Youth Partnership, an organization founded in 1995 with the goal of enhancing opportunities and improve the quality of life for children and youth in the Greater Philadelphia region through health and education.

One of my favorite parts was filming the team signing autographs. They were all very gracious and talked to the fans. Donovan McNabb just has an infectious attitude and it's clear why he is the quarterback that will bring this city a Superbowl trophy. He was 100% into signing every piece of memorabilia the fans put in front of him and he gave a big high-five to every young fan that stopped by.

As I was leaving I saw something that was both funny and sad at the same time. A guy hanging outside the gates, with two small children and they were selling bootleg Eagles shirts and hats. What kind of scum sells bootleg merchandise outside a charity fundraiser? If you know this guy please tell him he should be ashamed of himself.

Professional Recommendations

There is a problem in the wedding industry that has been around for some time - professional recommendations. Unfortunately there are some wedding vendors that "team up" and offer to recommend each other simply to help each other get business. In my opinion it is very unprofessional to recommend another vendor unless you are doing so for the benefit of the couple, and not yourself.

This problem is especially widespread in the reception halls. Many halls will hand couples a "preferred vendor list" or book. What they don't disclose to the couple is that each vendor paid to be on the list or in the book. In many cases they have no first-hand knowledge of the vendor's work. Please do not book from the preferred vendor list until you look at all your options. You may not end up with the best vendor for your wedding and will continue to promote this unethical business practice.

At KSV we are proud to say that we only recommend the best professionals in the industry. All the professionals on our links page are people that we stand behind 100%. We will not recommend anyone until we have worked with them at least once, so we know they are professional when they do their job. If they are a photographer I personally will check out their website and view images so I can say with confidence that they do good work.

The funny thing is I have been approached by many wedding vendors and asked to network with them but most of them I don't bother calling back because I don't enjoy their work. When we make a recommendation it has to mean something. So please check out our links page on the website before you book your wedding professionals.

So on that note I will leave you with a slide show from one of my favorite photographers, Jordan Brian. This was a couple that he booked on my recommendation. Jessie and Mike were so great and so much fun to shoot.

And finally, from Minnesota - Many heart attack patients wait too long to go to the hospital, according to a report published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. Studying over 100,000 heart attacks, researchers found a median delay of 2.6 hours from symptom onset to hospital arrival. Professional recommendations insist one calls 911 if heart attack symptoms do not improve after 5 minutes.

B.I.G. Video Show at The Aldie Mansion

Jess and Mike had a such a beautiful wedding at the Aldie Mansion in Doylestown, PA. the weather was perfect and everyone was in high spirits. We finally had a chance to work with one of our Philly Trash Bash alumni Paul Roebuck. Anybody who followed that blog knows that Paul is one of the best photographers in Philadelphia. The proof is on his blog. Paul is so great to work with. It's like he's not even there, and yet he gets the most spectacular photographs.

And then our B.I.G. Video Show was a huge success. There is nothing I love more than editing to a song that is not a traditional wedding song. This video will rock your socks off - and not just one of them, both left and right.
