Has Microsoft lost their minds? They have recently released a beta version of an application they have been working on called Songsmith. The idea is that you sing into a microphone and the application puts it to music. First of all, this has got to be the most stupid thing I have ever heard of. You sing into a computer and some kind of Casio Keyboard accompaniment fills in the rest? Are they serious? Is this really how they think a person can write a song?
I have played guitar for 28 years and I'm kind of insulted that they think a person can sing badly and just have a band inserted by a computer. At first I thought this was some kind of April's Fools joke, but it turns out to be real and the application can actually be downloaded from their site. Here is their commercial for it if you want a good laugh.
The only good that can come from this application is some good laughs as some people have tried to play some hit songs into the software to see what it comes up with. You can check those out here:

Side Note: Anybody else notice that they are using the application on an Apple 15" MacBook Pro? LOL
