Picture Perfect - The Cake

In this installment I want to talk about your wedding cake. This is the most expensive piece of pastry you are ever going to buy in your life. Many halls have the cake built into the price of the hall so you really don't know exactly how much you are paying for it, but you can bet that you probably paying close to $1000 for it.

And while most wedding cakes are created by some of the finest bakeries in the area, they are essentially there as a tradition and a photo op. So my tip today is going to be about the placement of the cake when you cut it. It amazes me sometimes when I ask the room manager if they are bring the cake to the dance floor for the cutting. Some will look at me like I have 3 heads.

I think it's such a shame to be paying all this money for your wedding cake only to have you cut it in a secluded corner of the room where only a few guests will be able to gather around and see. I think for $1000 you should ask the manager to move that cake to the dance floor so that all your guests can gather around from all sides and get some good photos.

And if you don't care if it's moved or the manager absolutely refuses, at least ask them not to put the cake up against a mirrored wall. It makes it very difficult for us and the photographer to shoot the cake cutting without getting each other in our shots. It's alos hard for photographers because the mirror can reflect their flash.
