Price vs. Cost

Producing a quality product can sometimes mean losing business to a company that produces an inferior product. I wish I had the kind of conscience to produce a low quality, quick turnaround video like some other companies produce. A little man inside my brain tells me that I can't just shoot with a little palmcorder and ship out boring wedding videos. I won't get into name calling, but brides know who these companies are.

The problem with these company is simple - they entice brides with a low price, but deliver a video that is of much less value. And that's where it's important for couple's to understand the difference between price and cost.

You can spend $900 on a wedding video because it fits in your budget. But if it's shot with one camera, not properly framed, with bad audio and no effort put into post production, how much are you really going to enjoy that video. How many times will you watch it before it gets put on a shelf to collect dust?

If you spend $900 and you watch it 10 times the cost of the video is $90 per viewing. However if you spend $2000 and get a good video and watch it 100 times your cost is now $20 per viewing. A quality product will always be a better value in the long run.

And think of the legacy you want to hand down to your children. Your wedding is a documentation of a very important day in your life. Do you want it trusted to a company that sends out high school kids with $300 camcorders or is it better left up to professional event videographers with years of experience and hundreds of events under their belts?

As you plan your wedding consider what you will have left after the wedding is over - your rings, your photos, and your video. Plan wisely and you can relive your day for many years to come. Choose your professionals poorly and you could have a very costly wedding.
